There is a teaching in the church called ‘Kingdom Theology’ or ‘Kingdom Now’ which maintains that Jesus cannot return to earth unless or until the Church has dominion over, and hence rules, the peoples of the earth.

Basically, Kingdom Theology is saying that when man lost dominion over the earth at the fall, God lost control of the earth to Satan, so is looking for a covenant people to take back that control. They maintain that this will be achieved by an elite group of believers, the ‘overcomers’ who submit to the ‘apostles’ and ‘prophets’ in the Kingdom Age. Some would promote the restoration of apostles and prophets (Eph 4.11-13) but are not talking of Church planting apostles, but of apostles who bring new doctrinal revelation to the Church, thereby denying the sufficiency of the Bible, and use unquestionable authority to control the Saints.

Prophecies concerning the future of Israel from both the Old and New Testaments are applied to the Church. For example, the Dry Bones of Ezek 37:1 –11 are said to represent the restoration of the Church out of Babylon (Babylon explained as being the denominations) into perfect unity, when all believers have the same mind, thoughts and aims, as taught by the modern day apostles and prophets. The Bible calls us to have the mind of Christ, not of fellow men. It is a characteristic of some movements to discourage the use of our intellect in discernment. We are called to test the words spoken by a prophet, teacher or preacher, which implies the apostle too, lest we be deceived by wrong spirits.

Kingdom Theology does not see the Tribulation as a time when Antichrist rules, but as a time of God’s judgment on the world. Some adherents say that Antichrist is not a person or government, but a spirit of rebellion against God’s authority.

As, according to Kingdom Theology, there is no Rapture, there can be no 2nd Coming until the Church has established the Kingdom under the direction of the prophets and apostles. Some maintain that, to demonstrate the Kingdom, the Church must be united under the apostles and prophets, and be prosperous, controlling the earth’s resources,

These successful people are termed ‘overcomers’.  All enemies are said to be under overcomers’ feet so their dominion must include divine health and divine prosperity. We have to be careful that we do not fall into this deception.
